Tough Mudder Poconos is coming up quickly! It’s time to plan your trip the weekend of July 17th and 18th and stick around to explore the area after participating in the Tough Mudder. Here are some fun things to do:
1. The Old Jail Museum
Wander the Old Jail’s cold hallways and peek into Cell 17 to get a glimpse of the Mysterious Handprint on the Wall. Stand under the gallows on which seven of the accused Molly Maguires were put to death and creep into the eerie dungeon. Read more here.
2. Ride the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway
Relax and ride comfortably in the vintage coaches built as early as 1917 pulled by diesel engines. The narrated round-trip follows the majestic Lehigh River over bridges, through Glen Onoko, and into the Lehigh Gorge State Park. High-rising cliffs, mountain scenery, and wildlife surround the train along the forested route to Old Penn Haven. Book your ride here.
3. Live performances at Penn’s Peak
Penn’s Peak, a beautiful mountaintop entertainment venue located in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, can comfortably host 1,800 concertgoers. Enjoy a spacious dance floor, lofty ceilings, concert bar/concession area and a full service restaurant and bar aptly named Roadies. Find the performances here.
4. Mountain Bike along the Lehigh Gorge Rail Trail
Bike on the Lehigh Gorge Trail which follows 26 miles of the D&L Trail, the foundation of the 165-mile Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, within the park. Wide tires are recommended. Bicycle rentals and shuttle service are available throughout the area. The trail is shared by hikers, bikers, and other users. Read more here.
5. Whitewater Raft, Canoe, or Kayak
Make your way over to the Delaware River, and set out on a canoeing or kayaking excursion. Grab a canoe, kayak, tube or raft rental from Adventure Sports or Edge of the Woods Outfitters. Whether you’re looking to float for a few hours or are up for an all-day quest, they can accommodate your trip with reservations.
6. Hike Through Lehigh Gorge State Park
The 6,107 acres of park land follow the Lehigh River from Francis E. Walter Dam in the north to Jim Thorpe in the south. The Lehigh Gorge Trail follows more than 20 miles of the D&L Trail, the foundation of the 165-mile Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor. The abandoned railroad grade along the river provides opportunities for hiking, bicycling, sightseeing, and photography. The trail is closed to motor vehicles. Read more here.
