When we think of Super Heroes, Black Panther, the Hulk, and Captain America might come to mind.
And while it would be pretty damn epic to fly through the air like Super Heroes (and probably easier to cross the Gauntlet too) it’s not supernatural abilities that make Mudders special. Rather, it’s the ability to escape the ordinary that makes Mudders extraordinary.
For the past nine years, we at Tough Mudder HQ have watched people discover their power and reach for their fullest potential on Tough Mudder courses. Trekking across 10 miles of hills, hoisting ourselves over the walls of Everest, and tip-toeing our way across the legendary Black Widow obstacle has brought out the toughest in us.
However, this past year issued a new kind of challenge. Many of us were training for our first Tough Mudder while others were about to embark on a big milestone now postponed. It rattled our year and reorganized the way we think about training.
And we adapted. As a community, we watched people tackle big goals and small right from their backyard. We saw home obstacles being built and favorites like the Pyramid Scheme taking on new life. And at TMHQ, we found new ways to challenge you from afar.
In the 3 months since we’ve issued an at-home virtual challenge, we’ve seen the best of the Tough Mudder community come out.
As we approach the 4th Tough Mudder Challenge, we present 4 ways you’ve shown us your inner Super Heroes.
1. You’ll need to commit to a goal
In 3 months, Mudder Nation, you have thrown down more than 250,000 miles and 9 million feet of elevation. Woah.
Throughout the past 3 challenges, we’ve watched our community not only hold themselves accountable, but also encourage and motivate each other when the excuses creep in.
We’ve seen the anticipation of the unveiling of new challenges, and we’ve witnessed the enthusiasm that comes with throwing down a new set of challenges each week.
Plus, it feels pretty badass to set a big goal (like a really big goal) and complete it.
Which brings us to our next point.
2. You can’t be easily deterred
Put a t-shirt on while standing on your hands?
Okay
Sit in a bathtub full of ice?
Cool
Drink a raw egg…
If there’s one thing Mudders don’t do, it’s cave to doubt. Each week, as we’ve issued new challenges, we’ve seen Mudders step up to the plate and swing at the physically difficult, the mentally enduring, and the outright ridiculous. We keep throwing them your way, and you keep knocking them out.
It’s got us really excited for the next round of Challenges from our partners at Marvel…
3. You have to embrace the value of a team
Mudder Nation, you’ve always known the value of the word “team.”
Need a hand up Everest? You’ve got ten.
Communication and camaraderie run rampant on course and you’ve always known how to have each other’s backs.
But when we issued a virtual challenge to help you train off course and keep you active in your down time, we were psyched to hear the Tough Mudders crews were continuing off course with the same spirit we love on course.
And while a team is certainly not required to complete Tough Mudder Challenges – Marvel Edition, you have one if you need it. With a Facebook community of more than 1,500 Mudders strong, a virtual community is at your back and inspiring you to find your power.
4. You’ll have to get creative
Mudders aren’t just a strong and resilient group. We also know the value of creative problem solving (again… Pyramid Scheme). On course, we are often challenged to find creative and collaborative ways to get over obstacles together. But that’s just the beginning.
So brush up on your Marvel knowledge and look to your favorite heroes for inspiration. Because Tough Mudder Challenges – Marvel Edition is about to test your toughness in all the fun, creative, and ridiculous ways we can think up.
