Tough Mudder started for me in 2012 and was mostly a fun way to keep myself exercising and to get back into shape. I knew I had gained some weight and loss some spring in my step during college and the subsequent years, and my first Mudder brought that to light in a tough way. Then and there I made up my mind to keep participating and pushing myself until I had hit my goals, soon I was going to events almost every weekend. I loved meeting new Mudders and hearing their stories, why they run, the hardships they overcame, eventually it became as much a reason to go as the athleticism. I even met the man that would become my fiancée at a Mudder in Missouri in 2013. We haven’t gone to one event since without each other. He even proposed to me under the Brooklyn Bridge before the Long Island Mudder in 2015 and we will be married between Tough Mudder events in 2016. Sometimes we’re running together, other times we’re pushing ourselves on our own or with some of the many amazing friends we have met on the way. It’s hard to describe how I feel when I know I have pushed myself and earn that headband but sometimes it’s also about just having fun and being outside living life with friends. I have convinced several of my hometown friends to join us out on the course and quite a few of them have made Tough Mudder part of their lives almost the same as I have. It’s safe to say I wouldn’t be where I am or have some of the amazing people in my life as I do if it weren’t for Tough Mudder. I look forward to meeting many more and hearing about why they are out on the course, discovering what they are made of.

I first started out as a Tough Mudder in 2012, so that I could empower myself by overcoming some pretty glorious physical challenges. I’ve remained a Tough Mudder ever since (four Mudders in and still hungry for more!) because the event rewards you with such a great feeling of pride and the kind of awesome camaraderie from fellow Tough Mudders, that you just can’t find anywhere else! What’s most special, I’ve run a few Tough Mudders with my brother, who’s currently in the Australian Defence Force, and they’ve been the most hilarious ways for us to have a good hang out! For me, Tough Mudder isn’t a race, it’s a fantastically gritty, exciting and exhilarating exercise in connecting with some of my best mates the muddiest way possible.

Running Tough Mudder’s for the past few years has changed my life. What keeps me coming back is the camaraderie and fun that every Mudder brings. Seeing everyone out there no matter how fit they are. It’s a mental challenge and seeing people accomplish what they never thought they could do is truly amazing. There’s nothing else like it. Seeing everyone run or climb over the hardest obstacles around is amazing. A great thing about Tough Mudder is that it isn’t a competition, no times, or places, just a personal challenge to test your badassness. Every year it gets better… 10000 volts makes me feel alive. I always look forward to my next run and everything about Tough Mudder. They feel like family. I just love it!

I remember the first time I heard about Tough Mudder. I watched a video with this inspirational voice talking about camaraderie, doing your best, and working as a team. Something ignited inside of me, I desired to experience all that I saw and heard. Even since my first Tough Mudder where I experienced the rush of jumping off a platform into water, crawling through mud, and yes even being shocked, I’ve been hooked. It was one of the first obstacle events that I ever participated in and it was amazing. I’m here to spread the love and help others.
