Tough Mudder community, I am moved by your altruistism. You honor the loss of fellow Mudder’s loved ones. You run with roses. You wear ribbons of support. You raise money for St Baldrick’s, Team Rubicon, and other charities that affect lives and raise awareness. You celebrate each others accomplishments. You cheer at each others weddings. You came together to show your support to Ian Porter and his family when he was admitted unconscious into the hospital after a car collision during the Philly weekend event. I am happy to hear he is now with his family for his out-patient-therapy. I hope the road to recovery will have a little mud on it soon.

Darth Vader got it right when he said “The Mudder community embodies the no Mudder left behind mantra”. Darth, who’s been on both sides of these charitable acts, said “The camaraderie, the support, are humbling. It touches you in a spiritual manner to be on the receiving end”. A guy who named himself Darth Vader is humbled and touched by Mudder’s love. If that ain’t the definition of ironical then there’s no such word. (wait..what.)

At one Tough Mudder event, a First-Timer who participates in a lot of obstacle and endurance races told me he can always pick out the Tough Mudder runners at the those events because they are the ones helping people. That made me feel really proud because it proves that Tough Mudder is not just an event.

For a lot of Mudders, it’s life. Tough Mudder has created a place where people face their fears, grow their confidence, and strengthen the tools they need to succeed. Mudders find other like-minded and spirited people at our events who always have their back. Mudder nation is community of people who not only have a strong bond, but are family. To me, it’s not just an event or a lifestyle… it’s life.

Hoorah to you, Mudder Nation, for making the Tough Mudder community what it is.
