Any seasoned Mudder will tell you that helping others is a priority – it’s in the pledge, and it’s in their blood. That’s why so many people who lined up at the start line of a Tough Mudder event in 2016 were there to raise money for charity. We love hearing the inspirational stories of our fundraisers, and we know you do too. So, we caught up with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), a member of the official Tough Mudder Charity Family, to hear about some of their amazing fundraisers who braved the mud in 2016.
Babacar Diop – $2,581
Breast cancer has always been in Babacar Diop’s life. Before he was even born, his grandmother and two great-aunts had been diagnosed. Hearing about their courage in the face of cancer inspired Diop to take on a challenge – to complete six Tough Mudders in 2016 and raise as much for BCRF as possible. He hit the ground running. After one week, he’d already raised $1,000. Six events, 60 miles and over 100 obstacles conquered later, Diop was left with two things that will stay with him for life – a love for the Tough Mudder experience, and over $2,500 raised for BCRF
KC Meadows – $1,401
When breast cancer patient KC Meadows signed up to take part in Tough Mudder as a fundraiser for BCRF, there wasn’t much that would be able to keep her date with muddy destiny. However, after receiving the news that her surgery was scheduled for just two days before the event, KC knew her first Tough Mudder experience would have to wait for another day. In the true Tough Mudder spirit of teamwork, KC’s friend Cheryl stepped up to the plate and completed the course in her place. Between them, KC and Cheryl raised an amazing $1,401 for BCRF, with KC already planning to settle the score with a Tough Mudder in 2017.
Jessica Rodgers – $2,525
Six years ago, Jessica Rodgers was a 32-year-old woman who felt unstoppable. A mother to an 18-month-old son, a caring wife to her husband Ken, and a sister to three siblings – Jessica took the world in her stride until one day she was floored when she arrived at the doctor to find out she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Not one to take the diagnosis lying down, Jessica sprang into action. She started raising money for BCRF, and in 2016 took on her latest fundraising challenge for the charity – Tough Mudder. She enlisted the help of her sister Kathryn, and the pair began training hard and fundraising harder. Before Jessica and her sister set foot on the course, they’d already raise $2,525 to advance the lifesaving research that BCRF carry out.
